Have you been to AlterNet.org lately? Doesn’t their new site look great? Wait… it looks the same to you? Good! Because Advomatic was hired to migrate their site to Drupal while maintaining the existing visual design that was working so well for their readers. AlterNet is one of my favorite news sites– great coverage of issues I care about both political and cultural. So I’m really glad they came to us for their big move to Drupal.
When AlterNet came to Advomatic they had recently been through a successful visual redesign. What wasn’t working for them was the highly limiting and unsustainable custom CMS they had been using. So we worked with them to move their site into Drupal while maintaining it’s current look and feel.
We migrated over 250,000 legacy content items including embedded media from their custom CMS to their new Drupal site. Alternet often sources photos from Agence France-Presse so we set up their media library to link to photos available through the news agency.
We also built a newsletter tool that generates custom HTML newsletter editions listing articles that editors can add, remove or reorder. The tool enables editors to create new newsletter lists on demand.
Check out the great writing in their Visions vertical and get inspired. I’m addicted. Seriously who else has a section like that?
