When Senator Chris Dodd decided that restoring Habeas Corpus and filibustering AT&T's amnesty bill had to be his fight while campaigning for President, Advomatic was able to do what we do best - fit the optimum advocacy tool to the specific political fight and connect the resulting cause campaign with the relevant constituency.
We knew who the advocacy targets were, and we knew that email sends would not be enough. By building a portable click-to-call widget we got the most effective advocacy tool into the communities of action who were primed for the fight.
Users submitted their phone number and selected the Senators that they wished to call. They were then presented with a reporting form to record the response from the call. Moments later their phone would ring, users would hear a recorded message from the Dodd campaign thanking them for their support and providing additional instructions. Then, the call was transferred to the correct Senate office. Because the system utilized Voice-over-IP, it was provided at no cost to user and low cost to the campaign.
At the end of our work, Dodd had climbed in DailyKos' strawpoll to second place behind Edwards. Markos Moulitsas declared that "Dodd is now the go-to guy". Other top bloggers including Duncan Black, Jane Hamsher, and Glenn Greenwald all encouraged readers to reward Dodd's courage and fight by fundraising for the Senator. Other progressive voices, began wondering “why not Dodd?”
This wave of buzz, goodwill, and donations would not have been possible without the flexibility of Drupal and Advomatic’s expertise in implementing custom politech solutions for important progressive fights.
